Connect17

Connect17 was a two-day event for people involved in the planning, organising or running of meetings and events. It was held in the RDS venue in Dublin.

We were proud to be the Crowd & Event Safety Partner for Connect17, which saw us planning and managing the operational and safety side of the event, while the team in Conference Partners looked after all the content and exhibitor-sourcing etc.

With over 200 exhibitors on the show floor including venues, event management companies, regional tourism bodies, hotels, industry suppliers and more, there was plenty of scope for business to be done across the 2 days.

There was also a significant learning element, with Learning Lounges featuring line-ups catering to a wide variety of interests and featuring a huge amount of event-related content and focus.

With only one day to do the build in the RDS, this event wasn't without its challenges but it all came together well and the Irish event industry and beyond met under one roof to talk business and do business.

The Challenge

Coordinating over 200 exhibitors to load-in & build on the same day, ensuring all paperwork, H&S documentation, insurance and more was in order with storm Ophelia threatening to cause serious delays was an interesting experience.

Our Solution

We worked closely with Connect17’s organising team to integrate effectively into their management systems, while ensuring we had the resources and autonomy to engage with the exhibitors and partners to fulfil our Crowd & Event Safety remit.

The Result

Thousands of industry people from Ireland and beyond attended and enjoyed all that the Connect17 programme had to offer. New friendships were forged and business deals were done. Connect17 built on what Conect16 began and the future is bright.

What we did

We initially sat down with the Conference Partner team and spent a few hours understanding the event and how people had experienced it and used the space in the RDS in 2016, when it was first held.

We then engaged with all the exhibitors and relevant partners to compile the necessary files containing all the relevant and required paperwork, to help them ensure their activity / presence was safe and effective for them.

We provided:

  • Risk Assessments
  • Safe Capacity Calculations
  • Event Management Planning
  • Crowd Consultancy
  • Event Controller
  • Safety Officer
  • Build & Break supervision
  • Paperwork coordination

What we did

We got on really well with the team in Conference Partners. We always find that the event / project benefits significantly when there's a particularly good relationship between us and the client.

We benefitted greatly from the trust the client placed in our advice and out way of doing what we do. They understood we were working for them and for the event and that things we needed or queried were important to us, for them.

The event went well. The build and break periods went mostly to plan and we were in and out as on time. The feeling was that Connect17 was a step-up from Connect16 and we are already looking forward to Connect18.
